Welcome, readers of the book "Biotensegrity;" enjoy our new Portal to Biotensegrity.
What is tensegrity?
Tensegrity is the way the world organizes itself. Build or buy a model and experience it yourself!

Why learn about it?
Whatever your goal in life, it's good to understand how the world works. Tensegrity, discovered about 60 years ago, is a new way of understanding forces at play. Whether you are building a business, designing household objects, building robots, or trying to live sustainably in a resource-challenged world, tensegrity offers innovative ways of thinking about how parts and wholes interact.

What is Tensegrity Wiki, The Encyclopedia of Tensegrity?
This website is a wiki dedicated to exploring the field of tensegrity, a subset of energetic-synergetic geometry. It is intended to use the "power of crowds" to fine-tune and make available accurate knowledge about tensegrities. This includes all aspects of tensegrity including structural tensegrity sculptures, dynamically adjusting tensegrity robotics, biotensegrity as expressed in cellular mechanics, biotensegrity as expressed in mammalian anatomical fascial/bone structure, tensegrity therapy as a set of mind-body practices, tensegrity as it illuminates ancient philosophies of harmony, music and dance inspired by tensegrity, and so on.

How do I get started?
Dive into one of our categories, which organize the entries into themes, or access one of our most popular pages: Chronology of Tensegrity, Bridge, 3 struts, Icosahedron, Bicycle Wheel, How To Build A 30 Strut Soda Straw Dodecahedron, How To Build A 3 Strut Copper Base for a Table, Furniture, Arch.

Or write your own entry!

Who can contribute?
* University students using the wiki in their studies
* Anyone.
* Language? A lot of important work in tensegrity is being conducted as tenségrité (French), tensegridad (Spanish), Tensintegro (Italian), טנסגריטי (Hebrew). But multi-language support is not enabled on this wiki. For now, let's store articles in other languages along with the English ones.
Fernando Fraternali is Professor of Structural Mechanics in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Salerno (Diciv), Italy. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Salerno, and a Ph.D. in Multiscale Mechanics from King's College London. F. Fraternali has participated as a PI or co-PI in various research projects funded by the Italian National Research Council, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Italy-USA scientific cooperation), and US research agencies. He is PI of the Research Project of National Relevance “Multiscale Innovative Materials and Structures” granted by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research for the years 2019 –2022 (MIUR Prin project 2017J4EAYB). In the University of Salerno, Prof. Fernando Fraternali serves as Rectory Deputy to Graduate Programs for the Scientific Area; as Coordinator of the PhD Course on “Risk and Sustainability in Civil, Architecture and Environmental Engineering Systems”; and as Delegate to Research and Doctorate Affairs of Diciv. Most of his research work concerns multiscale modeling and simulation of solids and structures, the nonlinear dynamics of materials and structures, and the design and engineering of tensegrity systems at multiple scales. Prof. Fraternali was awarded a Fulbright Research Scholarship for the academic year 2005/06 and has been Visiting Professor at the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories of the California Institute of Technology since September 2005 (several periods), and the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, University of California, San Diego, USA. Recently, he has been listed in the database of 100,000 top scientists published in the Plos Biology article “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators” (since 2017 until present, last update August 2021); among the Top Italian Scientists, Area: Engineering-Mechanics (http://www.topitalianscientists.org); and has received the "Major Contributions to Tensegrity Systems Research" Award from the Texas A&M Laboratory on Tensegrity Systems (April 2018); the “Bdr2017 Award – Category Green Economy” for the University of Salerno spin-off Newmatt within the Startup Competition on Innovation and Entrepreneurship “Borsa della Ricerca 2017” (Fisciano, May 2017), and the"2015 Hetenyi Award" from the Society for Experimental Mechanics, Inc.
