Read here about tensegrity structures deployed in such a way as to define a plane, or a flat continuous space, though such a structure will also have depth.
Plane
In Mathematics a plane is any flat surface that can be described with two Cartesian coordinates, hence the designation of a plane as two dimensional. The traditional concept of a plane is limited to these two dimensions only, hence is an abstract concept that cannot be constructed with real materials.
