Code_Aster

Code_Aster was developed to satisfy the need to perform numerical simulation to verify the correct operation, maintenance and replacements conditions of machines. Code_Aster does this via non linear models of mechanical and thermal phenomena. The simulation enables analysis of real behaviour and the risks associated with mechanical and civil engineering structures.

Code_Aster elements that support modelling tensegrity

Code_Aster provides 2 types of finite element that can be used to model tensegrity structures : - the first one is 'BARRE' : it is essentially a beam that works only in traction and compression (no bending moment can be transmitted at its ends) - the second is 'CABLE' : an element that has no bending stiffness and a small compression stiffness compared to its traction one. Using these features you should be able to model a tensegrity structure. In documentation section of this website, validation part, look for examples for both of 'CABLE' and 'BARRE' and then study the corresponding test-case.
